What Is a CRM? and Does My Fitness Studio Need One?

February 10, 2021

There are a million things to juggle when you’re a fitness studio owner or manager. You may have gotten into the industry because you’re passionate about health and fitness, but you quickly learned that there’s a lot more to the territory. You have to worry about administration, client retention, marketing, etc. Stressful doesn’t even begin to cover it.

That’s why you need tools under your belt to help you manage it all. You’ve probably heard about CRM software, which stands for customer relationship management. A CRM system helps you manage all your customer data, offers insights into your business, makes it easier to use social media, and keeps you up to date with all your tasks. CRM is known as the software that’s made to assist any and all businesses, no matter the size or structure.

A solid CRM software allows you to see all your members in one place. You get a timeline of everything they do, how many classes they’ve attended, which classes they like to attend, what marketing pieces they respond to, etc. In short, it gives you a bird’s eye view of what’s going on with all your members.

Having a complete contact timeline of your clients helps you build stronger, longer lasting relationships with your members because you come to understand your customer’s behavior. You understand what classes they love, which social media posts they respond best to, what time of day they like to workout, etc. The more you know about your members, the better you’re able to assist them and offer what they want.

CRM software also allows you to easily access your members’ information. You can look up their emails, phone numbers, and schedules. This will help you decide the best way to contact them, whether it’s a text, email, or even a phone call. Another nice trick to welcome in a new client: write their name on the welcome board for their first class! This will add a special touch in order to make them feel like they’re stepping into a tight-knit, but friendly community. In the grand scheme of things, CRM software was designed to help you with sales, marketing, and service. But the cherry on top is how well it helps you manage relationships between your staff and your members.

If you’re a fitness studio owner and you’ve never used a CRM software, your eyes are probably lighting up. It sounds awesome, right? The question is: do you need it?

Of course, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. Some businesses certainly need it. If you’re in a phase where you feel like you’re stuck and you haven’t had much growth lately, a CRM software is a great solution for you. For smaller, newer studios that are still getting the hang of things, you may not need it, although it can be very useful in order to create efficient marketing campaigns and retain more clients.

The choice is up to you at the end of the day. But a strong CRM software can do wonders for studio owners and managers—it certainly doesn’t hurt to give it a try. What do you have to lose, anyway? These types of tools may seem like a waste of money for your business, but the return on investment is quite high, and you’ll get long-term results that will help you grow your brand in exactly the way you want. Don’t underestimate the power of a solid CRM software.
